SNOLAB Workshop

August 27th and 28th, Sudbury Ontario

Dear Colleagues:

We will be holding a SNOLAB workshop in Sudbury on August 27th and 28th, 2009. There will also be an opportunity for tours on August 26th for those who wish to get underground to see the SNOLAB facility and SNO detector. This is a first notice so that interested parties may schedule their travel plans accordingly.

The workshop will cover those areas of science related to the underground science program of SNOLAB. A major part of the workshop will be devoted to the astroparticle physics program, including dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay, neutrinos and supernovae monitoring.

The excavation and basic outfitting of the SNOLAB facility is now complete and the installation of experimental infrastructure is beginning. In parallel the lab is “going clean” in preparation for the experimental program. Note that the workshop website will be operational very soon and will be accepting registrations. Please see for practical details about the workshop.

The main goals of the workshop will be:
To discuss the science program of SNOLAB
To review the progress of approved and running SNOLAB experiments and to discuss their infrastructure and personnel resource needs.
To review new applications to the Experimental Advisory Committee.
To hear of new scientific ideas related to the SNOLAB program.
To review the initial assignments for space underground

It is our intent to leave the meeting with a well defined roadmap towards realizing the current experimental program. We will also want to have a clear picture of the infrastructure needs of new experiments so we can tailor the installations in the experimental areas to suit. We are therefore making a renewed call for Letters of Interest and Proposals to be received by SNOLAB by Aug 10th, 2009. If your project wishes to be sited at SNOLAB within the next two years, we would be pleased to receive a proposal and have a presentation at SNOLAB 2009. In addition, we would welcome requests for development or prototyping space.

Best Regards,

Tony Noble,
SNOLAB Director
